About Traverse City
Traverse City is the largest city in the Northern Michigan region with a population in the metropolitan area of over 142,000. Traverse City, the cherry capital of the world, is located on Grand Traverse Bay and features 250 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. The National Cherry Festival, held during the first full week of July every year, is the largest of several tourism events. Besides cherries, the surrounding Tuscany-like countryside is one of the centers of wine production in the Midwest. Perhaps the most stunning features of the Traverse City area are its sandy shoreline and crystal clear lakes.
